Eleven students studying A level science courses at Richard Taunton Sixth Form College are taking part in The Scholars Programme this year.
The programme is run by The Brilliant Club, an ‘award-winning university access charity’, and it provides students with an experience of university-style learning. Recently, the selected RTSFC students attended their live launch event which was hosted in partnership with Christ’s College, Cambridge.
Rachel Powell, Head of Science & Care at RTSFC, said:
“This is a fantastic opportunity which will challenge our students and support them with their college studies. They will also develop the knowledge and skills required to make ambitious and successful applications to universities.”
Throughout the programme, a PhD researcher with world-leading expertise will support the students. They will also improve their skills in critical thinking and meta-cognition. According to a 2019 UCAS evaluation, graduates of the programme are almost twice as likely to progress to highly-selective universities.
Angelique Fossa is one of the science students taking part in the programme. She is studying Maths, Physics, Biology, and an EPQ at RTSFC.
Angelique said:
“I look forward to gaining indispensable knowledge from a PhD researcher around a topic that is not taught within the current specification of my chosen courses. The skills I obtain whilst undertaking a super-curricular programme will equip me with an abundance of knowledge that will ensure I am conscious of what is required of me to excel in a university environment.”
At Richard Taunton, we offer A level science courses in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Prospective students may be eligible for our Desty scholarship which offers exciting opportunities and learning experiences within the sciences.
