English Functional Skills

The Vocational studies programme is taken over a year and is aimed at students who have achieved grades 1 or 2 in their GCSEs. Upon successful completion, students can progress on to a level two programme of study.

FUNCTIONAL SKILLS: English

As part of your programme you will undertake qualifications in English. This will provide you with the foundation skills required to progress on to a level two study programme.

This course will equip you with the foundation skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening. You will explore non-literary texts, produce written work in various formats and styles and have discussions on topical issues.

I chose Richard Taunton because it‘s got a great atmosphere and everyone was so welcoming at the open evenings and my taster days. I‘ve made so many new friends, which has helped me come out of my shell a lot more.

So much of what we do can be related to real life situations, and you can really build up your skills and feel prepared for whatever comes next, whether that‘s employment or university - and you can have fun doing it!

One of the things I like most about English Literature is that there is no set answer, you are able to express several ideas and be creative with how you interpret texts.

If you are passionate about performing or musical theatre, then you should 100% do this course. The course has given me the perfect outlet to explore my potential as a performer and my confidence and technique has improved massively because of this.
There is such a high level of professionalism that prepares students for the performing arts industry, and the teachers push us to our limits and allow us to explore our abilities in a safe and supportive space.
