Art & Design (Textiles)

Summary

Textiles is a hands-on, two-year linear course that focuses on printed, dyed and constructed textile design. You’ll encounter and work with a variety of media and a wide range of 2-D work that will enable you to build a portfolio of exciting, textile-based art. If you have an interest in colour, pattern, shape, form, texture and decoration then this course will provide an excellent basis from which you can explore and develop your enjoyment of textiles through art, craft and design.

Art and design apprentice, buyer, costume designer, theatre designer, and interior designer.

UNIVERSITY STUDY OPTIONS:
Art and Design in Fashion, Textile Design, Conservation, Interior Design, Interior Decorating, Costume Design, Theatre Design.

Assessment and Qualification

  • Practical portfolio and a written investigation (1,000 – 3,000 words) 
  • Portfolio of work and a 15-hour exam 
  • Exam board: Pearson
  • A Level (level three).

Course entry requirements

At least five GCSEs at 5 or above, including English Language and Art.

A suitable portfolio of creative work may be accepted as an alternative to GCSE Art.

Additional information

The specialist Art Studio contains a textile print table, lino presses and batik / screen-printing facilities in an open plan environment, including an Art History and Design library seminar room with access to computers.

You will be expected to purchase sketchbooks throughout the course. You will need to purchase a selection of individual drawing and painting materials for home / independent work and some textile materials. There will be a studio fee of £25 per year to cover the cost of a range of materials, workbooks, specialist papers and coursework books and folders.
