Saints Star Shares Football Insights with Richard Taunton Sixth Form College Students

Young Southampton star Shea Charles gave Richard Taunton Sixth Form College students an insight into life as a professional footballer when he dropped in for a visit.

The 20-year-old defensive midfielder, who signed for Saints from Manchester City in an initial £11 million deal in the summer, was invited in to speak to sports and UPS students by sport teacher Luke Roberts.

He said the eight times capped Northern Ireland international, who has played in the Champions League and the Premiership for City, spent time chatting about his career and answering questions.

“It was really insightful for the students to hear from Shea, who spoke very openly and showed excellent engagement,” he said.

“The students asked a broad range of questions to which he gave detailed responses – even to the questions that were not football related.”

When asked what advice he would give to younger students looking to progress in life and getting ready to pursue a career, the youngster, who has been a regular starter for Southampton in the Championship this season, said: “If you believe in something then work hard and push yourself to go on and do it.”

Luke said he and the students were grateful to the player for coming in and to the club for allowing him. “He is an aspiring talent and has made good progress representing Southampton this year,” he said.

“We’d like to thank Shea for giving up his time to speak with students and everyone at Richard Taunton wishes him all the best for the rest of this season.”
