"Richard Taunton is such a welcoming and friendly community, which has given my daughter so many fantastic opportunities and support, enabling her to move onto university. The regular progress reports and opportunities to ask questions has given me comfort in knowing they are bringing out the best in her. The college has exceeded my expectations and offered so much more than just a learning environment."

"As a parent you hope transition from school to college is trouble free; that's exactly how we experienced our daughter’s transition.

During our first parents evening, we were encouraged to raise any issues or concerns; the tutors took time to listen and engaged in productive conversations. We were not at all surprised by the level of commitment shown by the teachers and the reinforcement of positive messages. We truly believe the college aspires to provide parents with the best information they can about your son or daughter.

When our daughter suffered a serious knee injury in her first term, outside of college, the support she received to accommodate her dance and musical theatre courses, from attending physio, moving exams and changing choreography, until she was back on her feet was outstanding!

The two way communication between the college and our daughter has given her confidence and reassurance."

"Richard Taunton has been a great choice of Sixth Form College for our two sons. Our eldest, who studied sport, was always encouraged, challenged and nurtured to flourish, grow in confidence and go on to succeed at the highest level. The opportunities to represent the college in four sports led to him gaining the Sportsman of the Year Award.

The college staff are always supportive, caring and helpful in building good relationships.

Our second son is also very happy studying music, which has a fantastically resourced department. He has also embraced the many enrichment opportunities that are on offer in music and sport, which are all developing his skills and experience further in preparation for university. He has received great teaching and support and is also flourishing as he studies his passion. I would definitely recommend the college to others."

"We began looking for a sixth form college when Hannah was in year 10. When we came to Richard Taunton Sixth Form College we immediately felt the warmth and enthusiasm of the all the members of staff we met.

Hannah settled into college life quickly and says it feels like being part of a large family. She is studying A Level music, biology and maths, and although she finds it tough at times, the teachers are extremely approachable and always willing to help her. Even when she emails them at the weekend they are quick to respond with helpful tips!

Many of the teachers run enrichment activities. These opportunities have helped Hannah develop as a person and become more confident. She is a member of the college Jazz Band and we are looking forward to seeing her perform with them at a local Jazz Club. She is also working with the performing arts students, as a member of the orchestra, for the college musical, Sister Act.

There are so many trips and other opportunities available for all students to take part in. Hannah found Industry Week, where visiting guests talk about the world of work, extremely informative. She has also enjoyed trips to the University of Southampton Biology Laboratories along with a visit to Portsmouth to take part in a music workshop with HM Royal Marines.

The college has good communication with parents too. We receive invitations to discuss Hannah’s progress with her tutor regularly and can contact the tutor directly if we need to arrange a meeting at any other time. We are also able to view Hannah’s progress reports online using Moodle from the college website. There are also parent evenings where we can meet with each of the subject teachers to discuss Hannah’s strengths and areas where she requires some help. A highlight for me is being invited to college music concerts. It is amazing to see how much the students improve over their time at Richard Taunton Sixth Form College."

"From our first visit to the college, we were all struck by how friendly and approachable the staff were; keen to talk about their subjects and genuinely interested in their students’ views. This level of professionalism has continued throughout both of our daughters’ education – staff really get to know their students and keep parents well-informed of their progress by regular progress reviews, Moodle and email. The relatively small size of the college results in the students being known as individuals rather than just getting lost in the crowd. It’s reassuring, as parents, to know that our children’s emotional wellbeing is valued highly alongside their academic achievements.

Richard Taunton truly is an inclusive college. When our elder daughter left in June 2017, we attended a ceremony where outstanding students from every department and course were celebrated. It was humbling to watch these young people collect awards for excellence in their field – vocational, academic, sporting, music, to name but a few. For many, including our daughter, these achievements would not have been possible without the guidance of dedicated staff who are able to spot potential and develop self-belief. Our experience of the elite performer programme resulted in our daughter being excellently supported in her university applications and, after a lot of hard work, she is now studying at Oxford. We genuinely never dreamt that this would be a possibility and will always be so grateful to Richard Taunton for helping her to achieve this wonderful opportunity."

"My daughter studied health and social care, applied science and fine art at Richard Taunton, in preparation for a nursing degree. She also undertook the extended project qualification, which is equivalent to half an A Level and valued by Russell Group universities. This combination of courses, and the in depth coursework involved, really helped her develop understanding and learn valuable study skills to take her on to degree level. Her teachers and tutor have encouraged her to fulfil her potential. Thorough marking and feedback has helped her to monitor progress as she has gone along. The friendly environment of the college as a whole has made it easy for her to settle quickly and get stuck in. I feel very involved in her learning via progress reviews and Moodle access."
