Sports RoundUp – AOC Nationals
10th March 2016
RTSFC Men’s Cricket team join our long list of South East Regional representatives at the AOC National Champs
- RTSFC Men’s Indoor 24 Cricket team won their 1st ever AOC South of England Regional Cricket Tournament. The games took place at Queen Mary’s College, which saw the team see off Peter Symonds and East Berkshire in their pool fixtures. The last game of the group stages was a loss to Bexhill which meant finishing 2nd in the pool. Progressing into the semi final saw us restrict Berkshire Agricultural College to just 27 runs from 6 overs, allowing RTSFC to knock off the runs with 2 overs to spare. Making the final saw the team meet the only team they lost to in the group stages, Bexhill. Batting first, Bexhill scored 42 runs from their 6 overs due to Ishaque Rahim, Ahamed Ahmadradzi and Zahir Khan being very economical. Team coach & sports teacher Alex said ‘Our innings were superb, Ali Bryers and Jordan Wright got off to a flying start, leaving the job of winning the game to Ahmed and Zahir with an over to spare‘. They have now qualified to represent the South of England at the AOC National Championships.
- Yesterday we also had our ladies volleyball team visit Ivybridge College down in Devon, for a friendly in preperation for the AOC Nationals. Having already qualified, the ladies went out and showcased their great recent form edging the team from Devon 3 sets too 2. Team coach & sports teacher Mason praised both teams for playing some great volleyball.
- Ex-European Diver turned trampolinist Lewys Southwell has been chosen as the South of England Regional student captain and will now carry the flag in the opening ceremony at the AOC Nationals.
RTSFC will be sending a number of teams and individual athletes to the AOC Sport National Championships on April 15/17th in Newcastle, Tyne and Wear. You can follow all the action on our Twitter and Facebook pages.
