Students Getting into the ‘Habit’ of Delivering First Class Performances
23rd April 2018
We didn’t think that our students, under the fantastic creative direction of our performing arts team, could top last year’s musical, Carrie. We were wrong! The cast performed to three sold out audiences and received standing ovations for their professional and humorous interpretation of the much loved film and musical, Sister Act.
The cast treated the audience to some of the well-known favourites such as Take Me to Heaven and Raise your Voice and had people practically dancing in their seats. There were so many stand out performances, we couldn’t possibly name them all. However, a special mention must go to Natasha Barney who played Deloris Van Cartier. She did Whoopi Goldberg proud!
The talent this year is phenomenal and many members of the Sister Act cast hope to follow in the footsteps of last year’s cast graduates who are now studying at institutions including The Urdang Academy, Central School of Speech and Drama, Mountview and Russell Group universities.
Natasha Barney who played Deloris, says, “I’d like to thank my teachers for believing in me and entrusting me with such an incredible role. I’ve loved every second of it”.
Leia Grant who played the role of Sister Mary Robert, says, “I am so blessed and grateful for being a small part of such an amazing and fabulous company”.
Our Principal, Alice Wrighton, says, “I know I always say this but it was the best one so far! (That’s continuous improvement for you!) I could sense that the students became an ensemble in the truest sense, all working with and for each other. Well done everyone”.
Lisa Fernandez-Adams, our Head of Performing Arts department, says, “This was the culmination of months of hard work by our students and staff. We are incredibly proud of all we have achieved as a team”.
A member of the Live Events Society, says, “The cast was amazing. I wasn’t expecting it to be of such a high and professional standard. I think it beat most of the theatre shows that I have watched!”
Amy Webb, a member of the audience, says, “Sister Act had me laughing and filled me with so much joy”.
Congratulations to everyone involved, from cast members to the unsung heroes working behind the scenes as well as our gifted orchestra. Massive thanks also go to the production team at City College as well as Cams Denton and her team who staged managed our show alongside students studying the Technical Theatre course at University of Winchester.
If you weren’t one of the lucky ones to bag a ticket to our musical, fear not. Here’s a selection of pictures showcasing some of the best bits from the show. Enjoy!
