Rock Challenge 2016 Heat
On Wednesday 24th February 60 students from Richard Taunton Sixth Form College took part in Southampton’s Heat 3 of the Be Your Best Rock Challenge competition presenting their dance work ‘Illness of the Mind’. This ambitious piece was based on Native American culture and explored the idea of dreams and nightmares. The piece was a huge success and won the most awards to date placing 2nd overall and winning fourteen awards including the judges Awards of Excellence in:
Choreography, Concept, Soundtrack, Costuming Character, Set Design and Function, Drama Skills, Performance, Stage Use, Visual Enhancement.
The Daily Echo described the dance piece as having “an incredibly intricate set featuring huge teepees and giant hoops which characters elegantly glided through as they were elevated from the stage, which was never empty of glorious characters and fabulously elaborate costumes.”
Lisa Fernandez Adams (Dance Teacher) said “this is our fourth consecutive year of having achieved a great result at Rock Challenge, but Illness of the Mind is our most successful piece and I am extremely proud of not only the final performance, but of the outstanding ethos that the whole team had this year which has made 2016 Rock Challenge an absolute pleasure!”
We will now anxiously await to see if Richard Taunton will qualify as highest scoring runners up to the Southern Open Finals in June.
