Richard Taunton Trampoline Team Jump Into Semifinals

Ten Richard Taunton students recently attended The British Schools Southern Division Trampoline Championships held at the Medina Leisure Centre in Newport, IOW with the aim of somersaulting their way into the semifinals zonal round.

To qualify, students had to place in the top three of an individual category, or the top two in the team competition.

Howard Tear, Trampolining coach at the college, said:

“We had a great day at the championships and are so proud of our students who were a real credit to the college. The success we have had is richly deserved and undoubtedly highlights the effort and commitment of our team.”

Three Richard Taunton students secured places in the semifinals as individual competitors: Henry Baynes (St George Catholic College), 3rd place in the Elite Male category; Mason Jackson (Regents Park Community College), 1st place in the Novice Male category; and, Lucy Mansbridge (Bitterne Park School), 3rd place in the Novice female category.

There was success in the Novice Female team competition too, with the A team – Lucy Mansbridge, Sophie Greenough (Redbridge Community School), Tia Pritchard (Redbridge Community School), and Aimee Tucker (Applemore School) – coming 2nd and subsequently securing their place in the semifinal. Meanwhile, the B team – Jodie Crouch (Noadswood School), Eleanor Mabbett (Applemore School), Kirstie Vivian (Redbridge Community School) and Poppy Wallace-Dutton – reserve qualified by placing 3rd.

The Richard Taunton trampolinists are now looking forward to taking part in the semifinals which will be on Sunday the 19th of January in Gillingham, Kent.
