Richard Taunton Ready for Dance Live!

11th February 2020

Richard Taunton students take to the stage this week for the eighth year running to showcase their creative dance pieces, with dancers competing against schools and colleges from across the south.

After multiple highly successful campaigns in past Rock Challenge competitions – and having been selected as a Premier Division team for the past three years – this year’s competition sets new challenges with the brand new Dance Live!

Dance Live! Is a brand new annual event established by Portsmouth Guildhall following the end of Rock Challenge, which means schools and college still have the chance to showcase their creativity and talents in a professional venue.

The college’s piece for this year is titled ‘Do Not Look Away’ and tackles the theme of Homelessness. The story follows the fate of one man who finds himself homeless and amongst many others on the streets.

Lisa Fernandez Adams, Teacher of Dance and Director of RTSFC Dance Live Team said:

“Our piece has been created in response to an article about real life events. The piece was about a successful businessman who graduated with honours and ended up on the streets’ after the tragic loss of his wife.

The article really struck a chord with us all, and on researching the facts on the current state of homelessness in the UK, it became very apparent to us all just how easy it is for someone to become homeless. We therefore wanted to create our piece based on this issue and to raise awareness among.

Once again our students have worked incredibly hard to create this emotive and poignant dance, which we are very proud of. We are excited to be part of this new event, and can’t wait to perform”

The team will be performing on Wednesday 12th February at Portsmouth Guildhall . Tickets can purchased online via the box office.
