First year Public Services students got the chance to follow in the footsteps of their local MPs when they visited the Houses of Parliament recently.
During their visit to Westminster students had the opportunity to learn all about the workings of the UK Government. Finding out about its role and composition, and the powers of Government and Parliament. They explored the inspiring 1000 year old Westminster Palace to take in both the Commons and Lords Chambers, and had the chance to take a seat where MPs sit to make all their decisions.

“This trip was the perfect way to learn about the government and how things are run in the UK in such a visual and practical way. Being able to experience this first hand has been useful in helping me prepare for our next assignment”
Steph Allen, Teacher of Sport and Public Services at the college said:
“The Public Services students are currently working towards an assignment regarding the different levels of government within the UK and how policies are developed and approved – so the visit today was the perfect opportunity to make the connections between what they have been working on and debating in class and the real world of politics.”
