Richard Taunton Dance Company Wins BalletBoyz Challenge
15th December 2017
Our Dance Company, known as Release Dance Company, which forms part of our extensive enrichment offering, has been named the winner of the BalletBoyz 14 Day Challenge!
The professional Dance Company, BalletBoyz, which was founded by former members of the Royal Ballet, set a challenge for the public earlier this year. Participants were tasked with choreographing a dance, based on BalletBoyz’ most recent production entitled 14 Days, that embodied creative expression, the joy of dance and something new!
BalletBoyz issued 14 video tasks over 14 days, which explored the themes of their production. Under the direction of Dance Teacher, Kirsty MacGregor, the dancers devised their own contemporary dance, incorporating their interpretation of these key themes including ‘Glued’, ‘Near Miss’ and ‘See Saw’.
The Release Dance Company submitted a video recording of their piece entitled ‘Moments of Connection’. It explores the connections we can have with an individual, small group or audience and how this impacts on the mood.
High praise and recognition was given by the judges, who said, “We were really impressed with their creativity, talent and commitment to the 14 tasks set.”
Our dancers managed to out dance the competition and win this high profile competition! The once in a lifetime prize features a workshop with Balletboyz. These industry professionals will share their tips and help our dancers to refine their technique, creative and performance skills.
Dance Teacher, Kirsty, says, “I am so proud of our Dance Company for the hard work that they put in to creating such a powerful and energetic dance and going on to win this prestigious competition. We are really looking forward to the workshop and to taking this piece on tour to local schools in the summer!”.
