Course Summary

The T Level in Education and Early Years gives you the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to thrive in a range of educational and day care settings. You’ll explore key topics such as child development, safeguarding, and special educational needs, while also learning about the vital role families and support agencies play in a child’s life.

This course is designed to prepare you for a meaningful career working with children, helping you build confidence and practical experience along the way.

All students will develop an understanding of:

  • The Education and Early Years sector from ages 0 to 19
  • Child development
  • How to support children and young people’s education
  • Safeguarding and wellbeing
  • Observing and assessing children and young people
  • Special educational needs and disability
  • Reflective practice and other forms of professional development.

Assessment

Year 1:

  • Written core examination
  • Competence Observations (Early Years only)
  • Employer set project

Year 2:

  • Competence Observations (Early Years only)
  • Structured Observations
  • Employer set project

Progression

Students completing this course can go on to employment within childcare settings and schools or look at progression into childhood studies or teaching.

Entry Requirements

At least five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and maths (plus science if planning to teach primary).
