A new website aimed at steering students along the right path to their chosen career has been launched with the support of Richard Taunton Sixth Form College and the Lighthouse Learning Trust.
The new website, www.mycareers.uk helps students find the right pathway into a number of careers identified as growth areas in the Solent region, including maritime and logistics, creative arts and health and social care. A series of bite-sized courses on each sector helps them hone their career choices.
Each course includes content from these sectors, a skills quiz to see suitable jobs and chance to earn a digital badge.
Alongside the website, a careers infographic paints a picture of opportunities in the region. It reveals 15 per cent of the area’s total jobs are in health while the creative sector offers some 6,200 roles. Readers can also see the skills employers are looking for and find out just where a college qualification leads.
Richard Taunton Sixth Form College and Gosport’s St Vincent Sixth Form College are proud members of The Lighthouse Learning Trust, which has worked with several local colleges to deliver the careers platform. LLT is committed to government funded projects like this which raise awareness of careers and support the Solent region with its response to the local skills improvement plan.

Students at Richard Taunton receive extensive careers advice through appointments, talks from employers and university trips. This summer saw students moving on to apprenticeships, and further study at the likes of Southampton Solent University and The University of Nottingham.
