Student leads college support for Ukrainian refugees

STUDENT Jakub Romanowski has galvanised friends and teachers at Richard Taunton Sixth Form College to collect donations of food and clothing for Ukrainian refugees in Poland.

The 18-year-old, whose family is Polish, is working with Southampton’s Polish Club, which is shipping lorry loads of donated dried food, clothes, nappies, medicines and other useful items to the Polish border with Ukraine, where hundreds of thousands of fleeing families and individuals are arriving.

So much has been donated the club had to put two trolleys in storage at St Mary’s Leisure Centre until more trucks are ready to leave.

Progress and support teacher Nicola Magaglio said: “This is a brilliant initiative that all came from Jakub and his determination to do something for the families coming to Poland. The response from everyone here has been amazing and Jakub has done a brilliant job.”
