Dozens of employers will pass on essential jobs advice at college’s careers fair

MORE than 40 employers and education providers will be offering advice to students and showcasing their job opportunities at Richard Taunton Sixth Form College’s careers fair on Thursday 7 April.

The event, which is also open to school students and their parents from the area, runs from 10am to 3pm in the main hall at the college in Hill Lane, Southampton.

Among the employers who will be exhibiting are South Western Railways, Solent Gateway, MDL Marinas, Yotelecom, builder Morgan Sindell and Solent NHS Trust.

The college, which was recently graded ‘Good’ after an Ofsted inspection, will also welcome the Royal Navy, the Army and Hampshire Police. Universities including Southampton, Solent, Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Essex and Brighton as well as apprenticeship providers, education recruiters and dance academies will also be present.

Organiser Jemma Cheviot, the college’s careers team leader, said the fair will give students and parents a chance to explore different progression routes as well as get an insight into how companies approach recruitment and training.

“We’re really grateful to all of these companies for giving up time to come along and we are proud that they see Richard Taunton as a place that produces talented young people,” she said.

“All of the exhibitors fit perfectly into the six career pathways we offer which include creative and digital, life and health sciences, education and childcare, public services and physical and built environment.

“There will be at least four employers from every sector because we believe that getting first-hand advice from the people already in that job is the best way of helping our young people follow their options and understand the local labour market.”
