Richard Taunton Student Receives Radio Award

A Richard Taunton student has received an award at the Unity 101 Community Radio Annual Event

Lauren Bevis, formerly from Brookfield School, studies Music Technology, Business Studies, and Popular Music at the college. During the event, she was recognized for excelling in radio broadcasting. 

Paul Swindale, Principal at Richard Taunton, virtually presented Lauren with her award. Of Lauren’s achievement, he said:

“Lauren has been a fantastic member of our radio team this year. She always manages to include marvelous and interesting vocal performances from her favourite artists that we may not have heard before. With her bubbly personality and easy manner, as well as being an eloquent speaker, Lauren has an ideal temperament for radio work.”

Unity 101 Community Radio aims to ‘promote and broadcast music and culture of the Asian & ethnic communities of Southampton’. Richard Taunton Sixth Form College has a weekly slot on the station which students use to broadcast music and chat about various topics. 

When accepting her award, Lauren said:

“I’ve gained a lot of skills using the recording equipment and building my confidence, which will really benefit my skillset going into the industry. I love music and sharing this with the audience.”
