The Richard Taunton Trampoline team are jumping for joy after being awarded third place in the British Schools National Finals in Staffordshire this weekend after a fantastic performance in the U19 Girls competition.
After an overwhelming success at the Regional Championships in December, where the team were awarded gold, and securing a silver in the Southern Zonal Championships in January, the students have been working hard on improving their form for the final, and their commitment was rewarded.
Under the guidance of international trampolining coach, Howard Tear, the team – Lucy Miller (Cowes Enterprise College), Lucy Hull (Redbridge Community School), Lucy Mansbridge (Bitterne Park School) and Sophie Greenough (Redbridge Community School) were able to secure third place with their excellent form and consistent routines, and individual competitor – Lucy Miller was awarded 5th place in the individual U19 girl’s competition.
The competition invites entries from schools and colleges across the UK, and this year the team competed against the top six teams in their category from across the country to secure third place.
Howard Tear, trampolining Coach for the College said:
“I’m so pleased that the team secured third place in the National Finals, the Nationals are not an easy feat – they’re up against high performing teams from across the country and it’s a real testament to their hard work and dedication. We’re so proud of them and all they’ve achieved, their performance was exceptional and just 1.2 points off a gold! Their bronze medals were definitely well deserved. Lucy Miller’s performance in the individual competition was fantastic, and being placed 5th from 36 is an outstanding achievement”
Trampolining is just one of the team and recreational sports that students can get involved in as part of the college’s wide range of enrichment activities. By participating in our sports activities students have the opportunity to participate in local, regional and national competitions each year with the British Schools & Colleges Sport and the Association of Colleges Sport (AOC Sport)
