This month, 13 students from our Dance Company delivered workshops and performances to local secondary schools, which included: Redbridge Community College, Regents Park Community School, Oasis Lord’s Hill and Chamberlayne College of the Arts.
The workshops were based upon a contemporary piece, which was choreographed in collaboration with dance teacher Kirsty MacGregor and the dance company members. It was based upon a workshop that took place earlier in the year with Ceyda Tanc Dance. Students were required to learn a repertoire and undertake a creative task, which the dance teacher of Regents Park Community School said was ‘challenging yet very enjoyable’.
We’ve had great feedback from students involved in the workshop. One student said, “I felt really involved in the dance and inspired – please come back again!”. Others were keen to find out more about performing arts courses at the college.
Emily Graham, dance company member, said, “Being part of Richard Taunton’s Dance Company really helped to develop my confidence in teaching and taught me a wide range of skills. It has made me excited for a career within dance and I’d really like to be part of a dance company again in the future.”
