We have an outstanding reputation for excellence in Music and have maintained an impressive 100% pass rate in Music over the past 20 years. As well as being home to a number of Southampton’s top musical groups, we provide opportunities for our students to play at the highest level.
Music students are taught in our new £1.5million Music Centre, a state of the art building, which opened in 2014. Featuring a recording studio, two music technology suites, three soundproof booths and a number of rehearsal rooms, students can practice in a dedicated space with access to professional equipment.
We encourage performance in as wide a range of music as possible, and every year we form ensembles to match the skills and aspirations of our students. Those studying our Music courses receive free specialist tuition for one of their instruments.
Our School of Music enrichment offer varies each year as we try to accommodate our instrumentalists interests, as well as widening opportunity to play styles of music beyond their normal experience. Our usual offer consists of:
- Gospel Choir
- Jazz Band
- Music Theory
- Performing Arts Company
- Record Company
- Soul Band
We are also a key part of the Southampton Music Hub and highly recommend that students take part in the appropriate Hub ensemble as a part of their musical training. These groups include the Southampton Youth Orchestra, Brass Band and Wind Band.
